Copyrighted works could potentially become bank collateral in Indonesia

Although there are still many conflicting opinions regarding whether copyrighted YouTube videos can be used as collateral for banks in Indonesia, this appears to be an initiative by the national government to assert the definite value of the author’s copyrights (intellectual property). These copyrights can generate income even after the owner of the work passes away.

However, to meet the requirements to become collateral, it is certain that the author’s copyrights need to undergo content assessment and a thorough evaluation of their profit potential. Therefore, the process of enforcing this proposed law may not be easy.

Nevertheless, this is also an encouraging signal regarding the recognition of the true value of intellectual property in one of the Southeast Asian countries. In the not-so-distant future, could all types of intellectual property potentially become collateral?
